UNITED KINGDOM: “Should obese children be put in foster care?”

A paper published in the British Medical Journal by a group of child health care specialists states that, in some cases, obese children should be removed from their homes and placed in foster care. According to the report’s authors, child obesity alone isn't sufficient to warrant a call to child welfare officials; rather, other factors should be considered. The researchers recommend that guidelines be drafted to help professionals decide when to intervene on behalf of obese kids.
