CALIFORNIA: “California on Hook for Millions in Foster Care”
02.24.2010 | Child Protection / Foster Care

By: Staff Writer
U.S. District Judge Marilyn Hall Patel has ordered the California Department of Social Services to increase the rate it pays for the care of foster children in group homes by 32 percent, in compliance with a recent 9th Circuit decision which found that under the federal Child Welfare Act, California is required to cover the full cost of care, not just part of it. The increased rates are expected to cost an additional $242 million a year.
