UTAH: “Foster parents worried about DCFS cuts” 01.28.2010 | Child Protection / Foster Care
By: Brooke Adams Utah lawmakers are calling for a 5-10% budget cut which would reduce the Utah Department of Child and Family Services’ already limited funds for out-of-home care. A proposed $1 million cut would be removed from the allotted funds for foster and residential services for children in the state’s care as well as an additional $400,000 cut in adoption services. Utah already provides low reimbursement rates for foster families, which limits the number of foster families the state can recruit and maintain. Many fear that the state will experience greater struggles providing homes for these children if they are required to offer even less assistance.
